What is the ‘Multi Year Indicator’?

The ‘Multi Year Indicator’ allows users to create requisitions in the current fiscal year that will not encumber until the fiscal year selected. For example, a requisition created in FY2009 with the ‘Multi Year Indicator’ set to ’10,’ can be successfully approved and sent to the vendor without going through the encumbrance process. The requisition will then encumber at the beginning of FY2010. If a purchase is to be made with the current fiscal year funds, the ‘Multi Year Indicator’ should remain in its default setting of ‘Unspecified.’ Additionally, when FY2010 begins July 1, 2009, the ‘Multi Year Indicator’ should only be set to ‘Unspecified’ or any year after Fiscal Year 2010. Selecting the ‘Multi Year Indicator’ of ‘10’ after July 1, 2009 will create a NCAS error message.
